How net metering works in Pakistan
Units, credits and the paperwork, explained without the sales pitch.
What net metering actually is
Your bi-directional meter counts what you export to the grid and what you import from it. At the end of the billing cycle the DISCO bills you on the net figure. Export is credited in units at the buyback rate in your agreement, and unused credit carries forward.
Where people get it wrong
Two mistakes cost the most money. The first is sizing an array far above your own consumption, because export credit is worth less than the retail rate you avoid by self-consuming. The second is applying with a sanctioned load below the inverter rating, which is the most common reason an application is sent back.
What it means for sizing
Aim to cover your annual units, then shift as much load as you can into daylight hours. A modest battery for the evening peak often beats an extra two kilowatts of panels.
